Summary of Recent Services
Sunday, November 22, 2009 As the busy holiday season approaches, it is important that we slow down, spend time with the Lord, and reflect on the many blessings He has provided. His “blessings” was the theme that ran through our Sunday service. There is much turmoil and uncertainty in the world today; but, as believers, we can have security and peace in His presence and His promises!
Andy Hoffecker and the worship team led us in an uplifting time of worship. Hope Summers beautifully sang a special entitled “Broken,” based on scripture from Psalms 42:1-5. The choir, under the direction of Kristy Ross, followed with a powerful rendition of “Washed in the Blood.” We are very grateful for the many people at Lawson Assembly who willingly use their musical talents for the Lord!
Entitling his message “Bless the Lord, Oh My Soul,” Pastor Roger spoke from Psalms 103:1-13. King David, the author of these verses, calls on the body, mind, soul and spirit to join together in a “symphony of praise” to the Lord for the blessings He has made available to the believer. Five specific blessings are addressed in these passages, for which we are to be thankful. These include the blessing of forgiveness; the blessing of redemption; the blessing of healing; the blessing of love and compassion; and the blessing of satisfaction and renewal.
We have all sinned and wandered from the path -- and sin separates us from God. But God forgives the sinner who repents. Through forgiveness, we are restored to God and redeemed from “the pit” (v. 4). We are redeemed through the shed blood of Jesus who took the punishment for our sins when He died on the cross. And, if we accept Him as Savior, we will not have to be punished by God, but will receive the gift of eternal life. God is full of love and mercy, and not willing that any should perish. He has His arms wide open, and all who come to Him can receive His blessings!
