It was great to be in the House of the Lord on this Memorial Day weekend.  What a great day to thank God for the freedom we have and to remember the service men and women who have given so much so that we can enjoy our freedom!  After a time of praise and worship led by Andy Hoffecker and the worship team we were blessed by a special from Tina Cook.

Pastor Roger shared a message with us entitled “Stones of Remembrance.”  In Joshua 4:1-7 we see that the Israelites have just passed through the Jordan River at its flood stage.  God instructed Joshua to send back one man from each tribe to get a stone from the river to set up as a memorial in remembrance of how God delivered His people.  They did this so future generations would see this and ask what it meant.  They would then retell the story of how God delivered them.  As Christians we must build stones of remembrance to remind ourselves of what God has done for us.  We tend to forget or to remember things from our point of view.  There will be times in the future when we find ourselves in tough situations.  These memorials can remind us of God’s mighty work of deliverance in our lives.  We then need to remind ourselves that God is the same today as when He did that work in our lives and He can do it again.

The future depends upon Christians today to pass on the faith.  In Deuteronomy 6:12-15, we see that when we fail to set up stones of remembrance we forget the Lord and fall into all kinds of idolatry.  There are many spiritual markers we can have in our lives to make future generations see and ask what they mean.  If God does something in our lives we should write it down.  We need to share our testimony.  Communion and Water baptism both are reminders of what Christ has done for us.  When we are faithful to church, tithe regularly and have a regular quiet time with God we prove that Jesus is really Lord of our lives. We need to be living stones of remembrance.
