March 28, 2010

We had a great time worshipping with our brothers and sisters as we were led by Andy Hoffecker and the worship team.  Polly Brewer and her sister Ginger blessed us tremendously as they sang “They Could Not.”  Pastor Roger presented the Pentecostal Evangel featuring the article written about the miracle that recently took place in the lives of Dean and Dorothy Miller.

We were excited to learn that two of our youth have qualified to go to the National Fine Arts Competition that will be held in Detroit, Michigan.  Jordan Lundy received the Merit Award for his Visual Art entry entitled “Baptism”.  The Merit Award is the highest honor one can receive in the competition.  Ashley Bell received a Superior with Invitational for her vocal solo “Hope Now.”  We are proud of them and all our youth who participated in the competitions held in Columbia over the weekend.

Pastor Roger presented his Palm Sunday message, “It is Finished.”  He explored just exactly what these words of Jesus meant.  He pointed out four things that were finished when Jesus died on the cross.  First, the suffering of the Son of God had come to an end.  He had endured hours of agony as He was crucified but that is finished and He is no longer on the cross.  Second, the Old Testament sacrificial system given by God to cover sin was ended.  We can never cover sin by anything that we do.  The shed blood of Christ cleanses from sin and wipes away the eternal consequences.  Thirdly, the curse of the law was canceled and finally, the dominion over the earth by the devil was defeated.

On Friday, April 2, the Ministerial Alliance will hold the annual Good Friday service at 7:00 PM at Old Union Christian Union Church.  Pastor Josh Brewer, youth pastor at the Lawson Assembly of God, will bring the message and special music will be provided by a community choir.  Everyone is invited to attend this special community service.
