June continues to be a busy month for Lawson A/G, with many summer ministry events taking place.  This past week our youth and youth leaders conducted a week-long community outreach to Lawson residents, sharing the gospel and inviting the public to a free concert with the Andy Kirk Band and other week-end events at the church. Our Junior Bible Quiz (JBQ) A-team, and their leaders, just returned from Dallas where the team competed at JBQ Nationals.  Zach Cook, Breanna Cole, and Jonathan Archer represented us well at Nationals as Lawson A/G placed 24th out of the 80 teams there, and Zach placed 5th (out of 399 quizzers) in individual scoring. In addition, our Royal Ranger boys and leaders have been at Camp New Hope in Holt, for the Junior Leaders Training Academy and Royal Ranger Pow Wow.

This week is youth camp at Lake Maurer Retreat Center and over 25 of our youth and youth workers will be attending. We are so grateful for young people who want to be an integral part of the church and its work. And, we are truly blessed by the many adults who volunteer their time and energy in helping lead the various ministries and outreaches at Lawson Assembly.

The text of Pastor Roger’s Father’s Day message on Sunday was from I Thessalonians 2:7-11, entitled “A Portrait of a Godly Father.”  Pastor noted that a dad must be more than just a provider. He is also to be a godly role model and give himself wholly to his children. The apostle Paul provides a portrait of a godly dad in his letter to the Thessalonians, where he cites four characteristics of a good dad. The first is to express genuine love. You must not only “show” love but also “tell” your children you love them. Second, you must live a transparent life. Practice what you preach. Your children are always watching you – it is not what you say but what you do that leaves a lasting impression.  Third, demonstrate an unselfish diligence toward them; and fourth, exemplify a genuine spirituality where you are holy, righteous and blameless!
