Summary of Recent Services

Today was our monthly mission’s emphasis Sunday at Lawson Assembly as we focus on the Great Commission and taking the gospel to all the world. In the morning service, our children collected pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters for mission’s projects overseas and here in our own country. Eddie Harrison gave an update on the MAPS trip to Chili that Pastor Roger, and several of our church family, will be taking in early February. Their task will be to help complete construction of a Bible school there. Then in the evening, Paul Robinson, a former police officer in Independence who is now a missionary to Colombia, was a guest speaker. He spoke on his ministry to law enforcement and the national police in the country of Colombia.

Pastor Roger’s morning message was inspirational and challenging, as he spoke on God’s sovereignty and the fact that God is ultimately “in charge.” Since God has given man “free will,” we must remember that He does not “control” every aspect of people’s lives, but His purposes always prevail. Because God is in charge, the one thing we can always count on is knowing that our plans will have a limit (Proverbs 19:21); our problems will have a purpose (I Peter 1:6-7); and our prayers will have an impact (I John 5:14-15).  We must always put God first and let Him lead, as He shows us His plan and purpose for our life.  The apostle Paul had his own plan for spreading the gospel, but God’s purpose for him was different, as He wanted him to write much of the New Testament. To get him to slow down and do this, Paul was put in prison, where he penned 13 of the epistles under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Likewise, other heroes of the faith such as Joseph, Moses, and David took different turns in their lives as God’s purpose was being fulfilled.

Make Jesus the Lord of your life today and follow His leading! Only in Him will you find peace, security, and ultimate victory!
