We had another great Sunday, worshipping in God’s house and fellowshipping with church family. Andy Hoffecker and the worship team led us in a beautiful time of worship as we entered into His presence. Debbie Wood blessed us with special music, as she beautifully sang “Jesus Is Everything to Me.”  Pastor Josh gave a praise report on Friday night’s “youth hangout” at the gym.  Around seventy five young people were in attendance and nine of the youth indicated a desire to commit their life to Christ! Pastor Diana highlighted upcoming activities in the church, as well as friendship group events which are geared toward bringing the church family together, in small group settings, to fellowship and get better acquainted with one another.
Pastor Roger’s message, entitled “God’s Antidote for Dark Valleys,” was taken from Psalm 23:4: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”   Life has a lot of valleys, including sickness, loneliness, depression, failure, and death of loved ones. Evil came into the world as result of man’s willful sin and we are living in a fallen world. Because of this, valleys are inevitable to all people: “In this world you will have trouble” (John 16:33).  However, we must remember there is always hope, as trials and valleys are only temporary: “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”
What should you do when you are in a dark valley? Hold onto the promises in Psalm 23:4!  First, refuse to be defeated by the devil (I will fear no evil).  Remember, God is with me (for you are with me). Rely on God’s protection and guidance (your rod and staff comfort me). Scripture tells us in Psalm 34:19: “A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.”
